History
As part of our overall corporate citizenship profile, EQT believes in giving back
to the communities in which we operate. To that end, we have established the EQT
Foundation as a dedicated resource for providing financial, in-kind and volunteer
support to communities touched by our businesses.
In 2003, the Foundation was set up with an initial funding of approximately $17 million
worth of Westport Resources Corporation shares. When Westport was sold by
EQT, these funds were used to establish the Foundation. The shares — as opposed
to a direct cash donation — allow for a more efficient manner of continual funding
for the community.
Today, the EQT Foundation has assets of more than $37 million. In 2008, the
Foundation board awarded more than $2.4 million in grants. Since it was established
in 2003, the Foundation has contributed more than $10 million to nonprofits in Pennsylvania,
West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia to provide support to projects that help make
a difference on critical issues facing our society.
In addition to financial support, the Foundation supports the work of nonprofit organizations
by encouraging our employees to invest their time and talent via community service.
These dedicated individuals — from all levels of the company — typically contribute
more than 3,000 volunteer hours each year.
From serving on nonprofit boards and
advisory groups, to rebuilding homes, raising money for charitable causes, and delivering
meals to seniors, our employees selflessly donate their time and efforts to help
the less fortunate.
EQT is committed to contributing to the social and economic vitality of the regions
where our employees live and work. By strategically providing financial, in-kind
and human capital, we strive to promote the growth of strong, livable communities
– an essential component of the company’s long-term business success.
