Highlighted Projects

The EQT Foundation awards nearly 100 grants a year to various organizations throughout EQT’s operating areas.  A few highlights of those programs receiving grants are:

ASPIRE (Area Students Participating in Rewarding Education)

ASPIRE provides college-bound high school students in the greater Pittsburgh region with one-on-one mentoring and scholarships. EQT employees volunteer their time to help students make more informed decisions, and provide assistance with life choices and career development by providing guidance with long range planning and personal development, as well as assistance with college selection and financial aid applications. Students apply as sophomores and enter the program as juniors. Since its inception in 1995, ASPIRE has helped prepare hundreds of Pennsylvania and West Virginia students for college, and awarded them $750,000 in scholarships. Have A Heart...Save A Life

Created in partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA), EQT’s Have a Heart…Save A Life program provides training to 7th grade students on the life-saving techniques of CPR. Initially launched in eastern Kentucky, the program has expanded to numerous counties in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Texas where EQT has active operations. Since 2009 more than 38,000 students have received training and take-home kits containing a personal, inflatable practice mannequin, CPR Skills Practice DVD, and CPR resource booklet. The EQT Foundation also provides underwriting and resources for an extensive Train the Trainers initiative, where AHA instructors train schoolteachers to use the kit so they can train their students. Each student is encouraged to train at least four others on the life-saving techniques, helping to provide essential support where it matters most – in the homes of rural communities where it can take up to 30 minutes for emergency personnel to respond.

EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler

Pittsburgh’s favorite fall road race, the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler takes participants on a scenic tour of our home town. The race, underwritten by the EQT Foundation, attracts elite runners from across the globe, and features a two-person relay option for those not quite ready to tackle the full 10 mile run.  Now in its fourth year, the run has gained popularity in the running community and attracts nearly 5,000 runners annually.

PBS Kids Writers Contest

Reading, writing and imagination are all part of the national PBS KIDS Writers Contest initiative operated in conjunction with local schools and communities across the country. The EQT Foundation sponsors the contest with Pittsburgh-based WQED-TV, WPSU, WITF, and West Virginia Public Broadcasting. The contest encourages children in grades K through 3 to submit their own original stories and illustrations for local, regional and national recognition. The EQT Foundation recently supported a dramatic extension of the program with resource materials, marketing support, and a new "Viewer's Choice" online voting option.
